When Should My Child Get an Eye Exam?

We recommend infants get their first exam between 6 and 9 months. Children should receive their second eye exam between the ages of 2 and 5, and once they turn 6, they should get annual eye exams.
Children’s vision develops quickly, and regular eye exams can help catch issues before they impact learning and daily life. Myopia (nearsightedness) is becoming more common in children, but early intervention with myopia control strategies can help slow progression and protect their eye health.
Our team can help monitor your child’s eye health and vision. Book their first eye exam or next check-up with us today!

Glasses for Every Child
Seeing clearly is essential, but so is feeling confident in glasses! Our optical boutique isn’t just for adults. We also carry a variety of durable, comfortable, and stylish frames for kids.
We believe that vision care should be accessible, so we offer affordable pricing on a wide selection of frames. We’ll help your child find the frames and lenses that fit their needs and personality.

What Happens During a Children’s Eye Exam?
Since it may be your child’s first eye exam, we’ll work closely with you to keep them comfortable. Before testing their vision, we’ll discuss your child and family’s health history. We’ll then check for eye conditions like nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, strabismus (crossed eyes), and amblyopia (lazy eye).
Children often don’t realize they’re struggling to see, so we take a personalized approach to detect even minor issues. If glasses or other treatments are needed, we’ll guide you with tailored recommendations.
We’re here to help. If you have any questions, we’ll be happy to answer them.

The Connection Between Vision & Learning
Children struggling to see clearly may fall behind in reading, writing, or sports. Uncorrected vision problems can lead to frustration, headaches, or difficulty concentrating. Your child may be experiencing a vision problem if they:
- Have trouble reading
- Have red or irritated eyes
- Cover one eye to see objects at different distances
- Tilt or reposition their head while watching television or reading
A comprehensive eye exam can help protect your children’s eye health. Whether it’s recognizing letters on a board or following along in a book, clear vision supports confidence and academic growth.
